The Spectator and the College Republicans will host Jonathan Arnott, a British politician and former Member of the European Parliament, for a discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. in Northern Auditorium.
Arnott’s talk will explore how his experiences in EU politics and as part of the Brexit movement inform his current policy work, including how emerging technologies like AI intersect with public policy and civic engagement.
Arnott represented North East England from 2014 to 2019, serving on key committees including Budget and Constitutional Affairs. He originally sat as a UK Independence Party (UKIP) representative, later serving as an independent and then with the Brexit Party. His political career included a bid for UKIP leadership and public criticisms of the party’s direction on cultural and policy issues.
After leaving the European Parliament, Arnott transitioned to public policy work in the United States. He currently serves as Director of Strategic Communications at the Virginia Institute for Public Policy, where he contributes to research and advocacy on education, workforce policy, and technology regulation. Recently, he’s been involved in publications and policy statements on expanding educational choice and coordinating approaches to artificial intelligence policy.
The event is open to the public. We hope you will join us at 6 p.m. on February 4th in Northern Auditorium
