The Spectator is excited to announce our next speaker as part of our America 250 series: Guy Benson. Benson is the host of the Guy Benson Show on Fox News Radio, and serves as the political editor of Townhall and as a Fox News contributor. Benson was a media fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, as well as a visiting fellow at Harvard University's Institute of Politics.
The event, a fireside chat with Benson and Spectator Managing Editor Akash Abraham, followed by a Q&A, will take place on Thursday, February 12, at 7 p.m. in Stackhouse Theater at Elrod Commons. Students, faculty, staff and Lexington community members are encouraged to attend; the event is free and open to the public, but we do ask guests who wish to attend sign up for tickets here.
Benson, an honors graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, has extensive experience with professional journalism. He has appeared on the nationally-syndicated Hugh Hewitt Show and has regularly contributed to NPR’s All Things Considered. Benson has received numerous recognitions, being named to ForbesMagazine’s “30 Under 30 Law & Policy List” in 2015 and The Huffington Post’s 2017 roster of the 25 top millennial broadcasters in American news and politics. Benson has also received the Lee Atwater Outstanding Young Conservative award from the College Republican National Committee.

Guy Benson’s discussion about the need for a free press at America 250 will represent The Spectator’s commitment to honest, ethical journalism in an age of hyper-polarization and misinformation. As America nears its 250th birthday, Benson’s talk will reveal the press’ important role in American history and how it can revive itself in a society where public distrust of the media is rampant. This event would not be possible without the Southmayd Center for American Ideals, and The Spectator is grateful for its commitment to sharing American values on our campus.
