W&L Rallies in Support of Vandalism Victim

Yesterday morning, a public act of vandalism was perpetrated against another Washington and Lee student. That act was intended to hurt and demean a member of our community, a clear and intolerable breach of the strong bonds of respect and honor that tie us together. The Spectator joins the Executive Committee, Administration, and Student Body in firmly rejecting all crimes of hate, and any attempts to deliberately make members of our community feel attacked or unwelcome. In truth, every single student at Washington and Lee represents a unique and cherished individual who adds great things to the life and spirit of our campus. We are each invaluable members of this community, and none of us should ever be made to feel otherwise. Above all, Washington and Lee should always be a place where our students and faculty feel safe and free to express themselves, and live harmoniously alongside one another. We at The Spectator call upon the W&L community to support our fellow students in the wake of this incident. We also commend the students, faculty, and others who have demonstrated their support so far. By responding to aggression with solidarity, intimidation cannot and will not succeed. In this spirit of unity, let us move forward to reject hate and instead grow closer in fellowship. The Spectator Staff
